Charlotte, NC (March 07, 2025) - According to local news reports, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal car accident that took place in the early hours of March 7, 2025, in north Charlotte. The crash, which occurred near the intersection of Sunset Road and Statesville Road, involved a black Infiniti G35 and a Freightliner tractor-trailer. The driver of the Infiniti, 19-year-old Jason Torres-Celis, tragically lost his life after being ejected from the vehicle during the collision.
At approximately 1:55 a.m., first responders were dispatched to the scene. Officers arrived to find the Infiniti G35 severely damaged on the roadway with heavy right-side damage. Mr. Torres-Celis was found on the opposite side of the road, having been ejected from his vehicle. A Freightliner tractor-trailer, traveling in the opposite direction, also sustained damage to its left side.
MEDIC pronounced Torres-Celis dead at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that he was not wearing his seatbelt during the crash. The preliminary findings suggest that Torres-Celis was driving at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, drove over the center median, and collided with the tractor-trailer. The investigation has yet to confirm whether impairment played a role in the accident, as toxicology results are still pending.
