A man, identified as Irving Leal Cisneros, 31, of Winston-Salem, was struck and killed while riding his bicycle at the intersection of Peters Creek Parkway and Academy Street. The accident happened just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday when Cisneros rode through a red light and was hit by a car traveling south on Peters Creek Parkway. The bicycle did not have lights or reflectors, and Cisneros was not wearing reflective clothing or a helmet at the time of the incident. The driver and passenger of the car sustained minor injuries.
Emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after the crash. Cisneros was pronounced dead at the scene, and a thorough investigation revealed that poor visibility and lack of safety gear contributed to the tragic accident. In a separate incident, a body was discovered near the Budget Inn in the 600 block of Peters Creek Parkway. The Winston-Salem Police Department received a call at 10:04 a.m. and dispatched officers, firefighters, and forensic units to the location. The body was found in or near the creek on the northeast side of the property adjacent to Academy Street. Lt. Steve W. Tollie stated that a death investigation is underway, and the recovery of the body was complicated by dense vegetation.
