Davie County, NC (June 11, 2024) - According to local news sources, a Davie County Sheriff's Office sergeant is facing multiple charges after being involved in two separate collisions. The incidents occurred just before 9:45 p.m. last Tuesday, as reported by troopers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers state that Sergeant Hannah Whittington was driving a 2008 Ford pickup truck when she made a right turn onto US-158 from Milling Road. During the turn, her vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 Chevy pickup truck traveling south on US-158. The driver of the 2004 Chevy was unharmed. Whittington then fled the scene of the accident, continuing to drive north on US-158. Shortly thereafter, her vehicle crossed the center line again and struck a 2022 Chevy truck head-on.
Both Whittington and the driver of the 2022 Chevy sustained injuries from the crash. Troopers observed signs of impairment in Whittington, noting her glassy eyes and slurred speech. She was charged with impaired driving, driving left of center, and hit-and-run. A breathalyzer test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of .33, which is over four times the legal limit.
Whittington, who was not on duty at the time and was driving her own vehicle, is currently suspended pending an internal review by the Davie County Sheriff's Office. Her most recent assignment was in the Criminal Investigation Division. She was taken to a hospital where she provided a blood sample, and is due in court on August 2. There has been no update on the condition of the driver involved in the second collision.
