Four Oaks, NC (April 06, 2025) – According to local news reports, a serious car accident in Johnston County on Sunday evening resulted in the death of one individual and serious injuries to two others. The collision took place around 6:13 p.m. at the intersection of Harper House Road and Newton Grove Road, just south of Four Oaks near the Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site.
Authorities say the crash involved a white 2018 Ford Fusion and a blue 2008 Lincoln SUV. The Ford Fusion, driven by 90-year-old David Carroll Raynor of Mount Olive Highway, Newton Grove, was heading westbound on Harper House Road and attempted a left turn onto Newton Grove Road. During the turn, Raynor reportedly crossed the centerline before reaching the T-intersection, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming SUV traveling eastbound. The SUV was operated by Rico Jovan Moses, 47, of Patrick Street, Goldsboro.
Emergency responders, including fire crews, EMS, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, arrived on the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tragically, Mr. Raynor died at the scene from his injuries. His wife, 85-year-old Erma Raynor, who was in the front passenger seat, sustained serious injuries and was transported to WakeMed for urgent medical care. Moses also sustained injuries but was reported to be in stable condition following treatment at WakeMed. He was the only occupant in the SUV.
According to the State Highway Patrol, neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash. At this time, no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
