The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office reported that the altercation took place near Island Point Road and North View Harbour Drive, just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
Authorities say the victim, 40-year-old Jeffery Michael Guida, was traveling with his three children, ages 13, 11, and 2, when a confrontation ensued with another driver, 75-year-old Terrell Eugene Giddens. Eyewitnesses told deputies that after both men exited their vehicles, Giddens allegedly shot Guida multiple times, causing fatal injuries. The shooter then fired several rounds into Guida's car, which was occupied by the children. Fortunately, none of the children were physically harmed.
Investigators, with help from witnesses, quickly identified Giddens and his vehicle. He was arrested at his home, located just two-tenths of a mile away on Island Point Road. Giddens now faces charges of murder and three counts of attempted first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond and made his first court appearance on Monday, October 14. The sheriff’s office has not disclosed the details that led to the dispute between the two men.
