Fayetteville, NC (July 9, 2024) - Local news sources report a tragic hit-and-run accident that occurred Tuesday night in Cumberland County, resulting in the death of a pedestrian and leading to the arrest of the driver involved.
According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, the incident took place around 10 p.m. on Murchison Road near Pamalee Drive. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Tyrone Thomas Jr., was walking home after completing his shift at a Fayetteville McDonald's when he was struck by a speeding vehicle. A deputy patrolling the area had initially observed the vehicle speeding but stopped to assist Thomas, who was lying injured in the road.
Despite the deputy's efforts to render first aid, Thomas succumbed to his injuries. Another deputy located the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading to a police chase. The pursuit ended when the suspect collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Langdon and Ramsey Streets. The driver, 22-year-old Logen Harvey of Parkton, NC, was apprehended and taken into custody.
Harvey faces multiple charges, including felony death by motor vehicle, felony hit-and-run involving death, and driving while impaired. He is currently held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $1 million bond.
