Asheville, NC (April 08, 2025) – According to local news reports, Asheville police are actively investigating a deadly hit-and-run incident that occurred late Tuesday evening and resulted in the death of one pedestrian and injuries to another. The crash took place at approximately 11:36 p.m. near the intersection of Patton Avenue and Louisiana Avenue.
Authorities stated that a silver Mazda SUV traveling westbound on Patton Avenue swerved into the center median and struck two pedestrians. The driver of the SUV then fled the scene before officers arrived. Upon their arrival, police discovered 37-year-old Tyler Michael White near the center median. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A second, unidentified individual was found in a nearby parking lot and was transported to Mission Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The Asheville Police Department has identified the suspect vehicle as a silver Mazda SUV, believed to have sustained front-end damage and a possible cracked windshield. Investigators believe the vehicle continued west after the crash. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the driver or vehicle to contact the department directly at 828-252-1110 or submit tips anonymously through the TIP2APD mobile app or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
While some early reports referenced the second victim having life-threatening injuries, most sources later confirmed the injuries were non-life-threatening. Law enforcement also stated that they have not yet determined whether speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the crash.
“This is our first pedestrian fatality of the year,” said Lt. Russell Crisp of the Asheville Police Department. “Our pedestrian fatality numbers have averaged between four to six per year over the last five years.”
The tragic incident has not only prompted an intense investigation to locate the suspect but also renewed conversations about pedestrian safety in Asheville and across Western North Carolina.

The right attorney won’t just talk legal terms—they’ll walk you through every step so you can focus on getting better. It's about ensuring you aren’t stuck dealing with the consequences of someone else's actions all alone.
